Teaching

My Philosophy and experience

I am a strong believer that establishing excellent technique is essential to developing a voice, whether you are looking for a career as a singer or simply trying to explore your voice and have fun! I work from the premise that no two voices are the same and I tailor lessons to suit my students. We will work on technique, repertoire, interpretation and, where appropriate, language skills. This way, you can build your tools and skills and let your voice grow naturally.

Currently, I run a small studio of private students from my home in Saffron Walden, Essex. This comprises of online and in person lessons which services singers across the country. I am also a teacher for the Guildhall Young Artists network.

What can you achieve?

My tuition is for everyone, from nervous beginners to more experienced singers. Learning to sing is not only about training your voice, but about finding physical empowerment and achieving a feeling of release. Take ownership of your voice and I can support you with:

  • Preparing a role or music for a performance

  • Gaining a qualification (ABRSM, Trinity, Rock School and LSM)

  • Discovering your true voice and improving your technique

  • Support with curriculum learning at A-Level and GCSE, and entrance exams for Conservatoires and Drama Schools

  • Improve your language skills to build confidence in a range of repertoire.

  • Sourcing musical scores - I have many!

  • Body alignment, managing and releasing tension

Testimonials

"I love my lessons with Jack! He makes me laugh and listens to me. I get to help him pick the songs we sing and he's really good at helping me learn different things!" - Sophie, 8

"I can't recommend Jack highly enough. His warm, engaging manner encourages engagement and develops confidence.
Jack is patient, knowledgeable and great fun to work with. We have worked through a variety of pop and rock songs and I can feel and hear the difference. He has brought the best out of my voice and I always look forward to our lessons. I've learned so much but had the most fun doing it. Thank you Jack!"
 - Natalie, 40

"I feel like I've been singing through a closed door, and Jack has helped me open it." - Claire, a consultation student from Chesterfield Cooperative Choral Society.

"I look forward to my weekly lesson - I wish I could have a Jack-lesson more often! His warmups are really fun and he helps me feel more confident about my voice." - Emilia, 10

"Jack has been teaching me for over 6 months - we've worked on breathing and support, phrasing, pronunciation and my range. Jack pushes you to try new things - I've discovered a love of singing in German (especially Schubert) and French. He is an engaging, passionate and dedicated teacher - like my daughters, I look forward to my lesson!  Do it. Contact him. You've hit gold." - Victoria 38
